Job Description Summary

The Coordinator of Liturgical Music reports to the Director of University Ministry and is responsible for the design and coordination of all aspects of University Ministry’s liturgical music/choir. This ten month position requires strong choir development, piano accompaniment, vocalist and liturgical planning skills.

Reponsibilities
-Work on seasonal planning with the Chaplain and Director of Ministry
-Select liturgical music for Sundays, Holy Days of Obligation, and the Baccalaureate Liturgy and create the appropriate liturgical order of service.
-Recruit, coordinate and form a student choir for Sunday liturgies. Play the piano and serve as a back-up vocalist.
-Develop a cadre of faculty, staff, and students for Holy Days of Obligation and other signature liturgies particular to Lewis University (Ash Wednesday, Mass of the Holy Spirit, Celebration of Service, etc.). Play the piano for these liturgies and serve as a back-up vocalist.
-Advertise & recruit for all masses
-Coordinate and serve as accompaniment of professional musicians and prepare music materials for the Baccalaureate Liturgy.
-Recruit and train all liturgical ministers
-Serve as the pianist for the Koinonia retreat
-Write a Liturgical Music Plan for the next 2-4 years, revised annually.
-Help with weddings, funerals, and prayer services as needed
-Serve on Ministry and other University committees or task forces as assigned.
-Participate in weekly staff meetings (as needed), provide guidance in pastoral conversations with students and staff, and provide a pastoral presence in residence halls and common areas.
-Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledgeable about and experienced in the Catholic liturgy. Strong accompaniment and vocalist skills necessary. Organ experience a plus. Experience in leading a choir, selecting liturgical music, and preparing liturgical materials. Have the ability to recruit and organize students in their desire to sing and play instruments. Must have the ability to effectively work independently and as part of a team. Must demonstrate outstanding communication skills (oral and written). Bachelor’s degree required.

Essential Duties
Work hours

20 hours per week.
Sundays 7-10pm
17 hours will be split among 2-3 days/ week.
