Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Electronic Resources and Acquisitions Librarian is responsible for managing the library’s electronic/digital content and budgetary process through an understanding of both acquisitions in multiple formats and all aspects of electronic resources management (i.e. subscription, licensing, maintenance and support, production and dissemination of statistics).


Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University’s Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
-Support and promote the Library Vision, offering diverse and dynamic resources and collections to its learning community in the spirit of academic inquiry and civic engagement.
-Manages the library materials budget, monitors expenditures and compiles weekly, monthly and annual reports to the director to ensure the ordering and receipt of university library materials in all formats and mediums to foster timely and persistent availability of continuing resources.
-Monitors and maintains library budget accounts, including the processing of all paperwork necessary to coordinate timely payment through the Business Office.
-Oversees acquisitions processes for library materials in all formats along with the accompanying fiscal responsibilities.
-Plans, coordinates, monitors and analyzes acquisitions of all types and formats of library materials.
-Responsible for the maintenance of online periodical/journal subscriptions.
-Communicates with external providers, including publishers, vendors, content providers, consortia, and technology suppliers, via telephone, email and in-person.
-Coordinates licensing of electronic resources acquired by the institution alone and in consortium with other libraries, and ensures timely renewals or cancellations.
-Tracks title changes and the transfer of online subscriptions from one publisher/platform to another or in and out of online packages.
-Records receipt of all library materials on a timely basis, including using the appropriate system, and in accordance with standard professional protocols.
-Claims items purchased for the collection should be processed once received in a timely manner.
-Gather statistics, extracts and organizes data, and creates reports for print, electronic and digital library resources for assessment.
-Works collaboratively with library faculty and staff.
-Attend professional workshops relevant to library matters, as well as any library vendor workshops and meetings.
-Under the direction of the Library Director, and in conjunction with library staff, and the staff of other university units, assist in long-range planning of library services, creation and implementation of library policies, procedures and workflow documentation, special projects and/or activities.

Minimum Qualifications

MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution. One to three years of academic library experience. Experience working with library budgets and electronic resources. Familiarity with one or more integrated library systems. Software application knowledge and experience, a demonstrated high level of proficiency in the MSOffice suite, assessment tools, etc. Ability to demonstrate flexibility to adapt to new technologies and changes. Function effectively in a team environment, flexibility and the capacity to embrace change in a dynamic and evolving organization, and a facility for cross-departmental communications. Excellent oral/written communication skills are necessary. Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize, and work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of online databases, link resolver, finding tools and library resource discovery systems. Working knowledge of cataloging practices and metadata formats. Experience with library assessment in an academic environment. Able to research emerging technologies for deployment of library services. Ability to take initiative and see projects through independently. Experience with Voyager integrated library system. Familiarity with electronic resource standards and protocols such as SUSHI, COUNTER, and SERU.
