Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Director of University Ministry, the Assistant Director of University Ministry/Coordinator of Social Justice Formation develops and supports programs that encourage students to live and understand social justice from a Catholic perspective. The Assistant Director will also manage the Ministry facilities (Sancta Alberta Chapel, Miguel Center for University Ministry and the LaGrippe Pastoral Center), oversee the program calendar, and serve on standing committees. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director to lead the Department in visioning and in responding to opportunities.

Ministerial Vision
-Sees him/herself as a minister – one who accompanies people on their faith journey, who provokes and challenges people to live good lives, who comforts and counsels those in need, and who calls people together in the spirit of association.
-Incorporates student leaders into programs.
-Participates in, at least, yearly professional development (books, conferences, classes) and formation experiences (retreats, days of reflection).
-Be an effective, contributing member of a ministry team that develops a complex ministry program in service to undergraduates, graduates, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities Include:
-Lead pilgrimages to locations significant to the movement for social justice during breaks and in May.
-Organize the Catalyst Social Justice Team & Retreat.
-Moderate a chapter of Catholic Relief Services or another organization that promotes social justice.
-Write an annual Social Justice Education plan for the next 2-4 years.
-Collect data on students involved with social justice education for program development and institutional reporting.
-Keep Sancta Alberta, the Miguel Center, and the Pastoral Center organized and in good working order.
-Oversee the building calendar and manage use, set-up, and clean-up.
-Serve on University and Ministry committees.
-Serve on a Diocesan Committee related to Social Justice.
-Lead a faith sharing group.
-Participate in Sunday liturgies, weekly staff meetings, Visit Day and Open House Days; provide guidance in pastoral conversations with students and staff; and be a pastoral presence in residence halls and common areas.
-Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

3-5 years of experience in ministry at the university level. Must have expertise in Catholic social teaching and knowledge of organizations which work for justice. Must have a demonstrated ability to energize and organize students to respond and to design programs to develop students’ Christian faith. Possess excellent organizational & project management skills. Must have the ability to effectively work independently and as part of a team. Must have outstanding oral and written communication skills. Master’s degree related to pastoral ministry (theology, pastoral studies, religious education, divinity) required.

Preferred Qualifications

Grant writing experience desirable.
