Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Writing Center, the Graduate Assistant will serve as an administrative presence, helping to facilitate the daily operations of the Writing Center. This person will organize, coordinate and perform responsible clerical and administrative duties and assist with daily operations of the Center.

Responsibilities

Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University’s Mission in Catholic and Lasallian higher education.

-Greet and direct students and guests who visit the Writing Center.
-Manage the front desk and answer telephone inquiries.
-Support tutors and tutoring as needed, working as a liaison between the writers and the tutors.
-Perform tasks related to WC online (writing center management software), which includes registering new students, assisting with appointments, updating changes for the tutors and clients, processing reports as needed, etc.
-Manage, organize and file Writing Center forms
-Maintain records and assist with collection of WC data
-Give Writing Center presentations on services and on specific writing topics as needed
-Support writers through undergraduate an graduate level tutoring as needed
-Help organize Writing Center related university events
-All other duties as assigned by the Writing Center Director

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required and must be enrolled and maintain academic excellence in one of Lewis University’s graduate programs. Demonstrated writing excellence via writing samples and recommendation letter from a faculty member; excellent social skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference to have worked in a Writing Center or have tutoring experience.

Essential Duties

Part-time; minimum of 20 hours per week – year round
