Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

Full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor position in the Early Childhood Education program in the College of Education.

Responsibilities

Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the mission in a Catholic and Lasallian higher education community.

-Model, teach and promote the unit standards for the College of Education to become a critical transformative educator, a multicultural educator and a social justice advocate.
-Teach courses in one or more of the following areas: child development, early language development, early childhood inclusive curriculum and instruction, and early childhood observation and assessment.
-Mentor and supervise teaching candidates in infant/toddler, early childhood, early childhood special education, and early primary classrooms through field and clinical experience.
-Teach four courses in both fall and spring semesters.
-Recruit and advise teacher candidates and provide support from admission through completion.
-Participate in faculty governance and provide service to the College and University through committee involvement.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate or significant work toward the completion of a terminal degree required. Teaching or related experience that includes infant/toddler, preschool, or PK-2 classrooms. Demonstrated potential for teaching in higher education. Strength in developing and working in a collaborative community with students, colleagues and the elementary community at large.

Preferred Qualifications

Earned doctorate in education, child development or related field. Background in inclusive and blended early childhood education methods, English as a Second Language or bilingual education, early childhood assessment, or early child growth and development strongly preferred. Knowledge of program assessment including the edTPA, Illinois licensure and accreditation preferable. Evidence of scholarship and research in the field. Experience working in diverse educational settings and with diverse teaching candidates.
